US-0071

Operated POTA from US-0071 Yosemite National Park over 4 days. Over multiple operating sessions from different locations around the park using different radios and antenna setups I finished the week with 469 QSOs between SSB and FT8. This achievement put me in first place for QSOs from the park according to the POTA website.

The first two days I mostly worked 20m SSB running 100w from the campground with my IC-7300 and a BuddiHEX antenna. This generated a huge pile up and I had to start calling for stations by the number in their callsign to break up the group. It was a lot of fun. The first hour I operated I worked 91 stations, everyone was disappointed when I had to go QRT for dinner.

I also operated QRP portable with my IC-705 from Tenaya Lake, Washburn Point, and I worked VHF/UHF FM simplex from the top of Sentinal Dome.  I was able to work 11 stations on FM simplex, not bad for a Wednesday afternoon.

The last night in camp I was able to string up a long wire and tune up 80m to so I could work 10 stations via FT8 using 10w from the IC-705. I am not able to get on 80m often so it was fun to be able to operate down there.
